International Fair Of Traditional Crafts “Etar – 2015” starts on 4th of September

An International Fair of traditional Crafts will take place in the Architectural-Ethnographic Complex of Etar, Bulgaria. The unique open-air museum presents the Bulgarian customs, culture and craftsmanship. There are 50 objects, including water installations and houses with craftsmen’s workshops attached. The complex illustrates the architecture, the way of life and economy of the region during the Bulgarian National Revival.

An annual international event

Annually the International Fair takes place at the beginning of September. The edition in 2015 starts on the 4th of September and continues till 6th of September. About 100 craftsmen from Bulgaria and Japan, South Korea, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Scotland, Ukraine, Italy and Syria will participate in it.

The Bulgarian masters will present pottery, wood carving, weaving, hand knitting, leather, wrought iron, saddlery, carpet making and etc. The foreign participants will demonstrate traditional crafts for their countries like paper souvenirs, calligraphy, straw products, iconography, embroidery work and adornments made of beads, elaboration of glass statuettes, traditional embroidery.

A First national meeting of the masters of folklore music instruments will take place for first time during the fair. The event is a result of the cooperation of the AEC “Etar” and the Music Company “Rodolubie”. An expert jury will reward the best instruments in five categories – bagpipe, wooden flute, mandolin, fiddle and drum.

The guests of the open-air museum will enjoy the multiform folklore programme featuring Nikolina Chakardukova and Nevrokop’s dance ensemble, a play “Folklore Magic” by The State Puppet Theatre, Stara Zagora, Trakia Folklore ensemble and lots more.
