Brussels will Dance a Giant Horo for the Fifth Time

The Giant Horo is a part of the programme of the annual Balkan Trafik Festival that will be held in Brussels this weekend.

The upcoming event will be under the patronage of the President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani. According to him the fact that the horo dances in circle expresses the joy and energy of life, the unity between people, the equality between the men and women. He also thinks that the Horo convincingly symbolizes the European Union’s motto “United in diversity” and the stars’ circle on the European flag.

The horo is a traditional Bulgarian dance

accompanied by music, also widespread in the other countries of the Balkans and the Middle East. The Bulgarian horo dances exist in many shapes. Their steps are extremely diverse. They differ by the rhythm, too. There are no two horo dances with similar steps. There are probably over five thousand types of horo dances in the Bulgarian folklore.

The Grand Place will be the stage for the Giant horo, the traditional dance of the Balkans and the Middle East. Open to everyone, the event will celebrate the diversity of Brussels.
