Fritz Strobl opens the winter season in Bansko on December 17

The famous Bulgarian winter resort Bansko continues the tradition some of the greatest skiers in the world to participate in the opening of the winter season. In 2016 this will be the 44-old famous Austrian skier Fritz Strobl, who still holds the record time for finishing the full Streif course in 1:51.58, set in 1997.

He will be the guest star of the official opening of the upcoming winter season in Bansko on the 17th of December. The famous skier is the 28th celebrity, who will participate in the event. He is also the 15th Olimpic Champion, who will take part in the opening.

Fritz Strobl’s skiing career

Fritz Strobl competed on the World Cup circuit for 15 seasons and recorded 9 victories: seven in downhill and two in super-G. During his sports career, the skier had 31 podium finishes and 110 top 10 finishes. In his final race on 15 March 2007, during the Super G World Cup, Strobl descended dressed as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. His single “Genie auf die Ski”reached second place in the Austrian charts.
