The National Folklore Fair In Koprivshtica completes 50-years

On 7th of August, after a half of a century, in Koprivshtica, Bulgaria opens 11th Edition of the National Folklore Fair. The Voivodec area nearby the city becomes an arena of the biggest authentic Bulgarian folklore performance, traditionally hold every five years.

The participants – folklore singers, dancers, amateur ensembles – will present themselves here, on seven stages and two more in the city.

There will be about 18000 performers from all over the country, presenting different geographic and folklore areas. Foreign performers will take part at the feast too. Americans and Japanese will show their skills in Bulgarian folk dances.

For this remarkable feast, local people expect over 400 000 guests. The Mayor  of Koprivshtica Gencho Gerdanov invited them to come dressed in folklore costumes.

At the same time, in The National Palace of Culture in Sofia will take place International roundtable, titled: “70 years UNESCO – peace through education, science and culture”. Members of UNESCO Secretariat, representatives of governmental and NGO, scientists and experts in culture will take part in the formal event.

The Roundtable and The National Folklore Fair in Koprivshtica will be formally open by the General Director of UNESCO, Ms. Irina Bokova.
